Getting Better Together

Welcome

Since 1965, the East Harlem Council for Human Services, Inc. (Council) has provided the highest quality of fully bilingual health and human services to the East Harlem community. Over the past 60 years, the Council has developed several programs to meet the needs of the community. These programs include the East Harlem Bilingual Head Start, The Boriken Neighborhood Health Center (Boriken), School Based Health Programs at PS 7, PS 112 & PS 155 and our Senior Nutrition program for Older Adults at Casabe Houses.

We are very proud of the services and the work we have done over the past 6 decades and we remain committed to delivering on our mission. East Harlem and the surrounding communities are vibrant, full of rich history, culture, and arts but at the same time they face significant challenges around healthcare, housing, and other human services. The Council will continue to do all it can to ensure this community gets the services they need and deserve.

Our Health Center, Boriken, is an NCQA recognized Patient-Centered Medical Home and as such follows the best practices to provide continuous and coordinated care to patients to improve health outcomes and maintain each patient’s health and well-being.

Boriken’s providers and staff are uniquely qualified to provide services to the residents of East Harlem and other underserved communities. Our staff members are all extremely aware of the factors that impact on the health of East Harlem residents.

The knowledge of El Barrio and its residents allow providers to develop comprehensive service and treatment plans to address each of the patient’s needs and build on existing strengths. The majority of our staff are bilingual, and we offer interpretation and translation services.
